About Us

Carol Roush, LMT, Epona Advanced Facilitator: The rapidly growing field of Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning provides the perfect platform for Carol to combine a life-long love of horses with her highly developed intuitive gift in supporting human growth and healing. Carol owns and operates Medicine Horse Ranch in California, and she is also a senior faculty member and instructor in advanced programs at the Epona Center with Linda Kohanov.

"I feel it is an honor to be part of the process of horses helping humans reconnect to nature and to their authentic selves. The horses in the Medicine Horse Herd are masters of this magical work and they continue to teach us every day.

"I first came to this work after the sudden death of my husband. I was 44 years old and the life I had envisioned abruptly ended. Two years of struggle and grief brought me to my knees, and I realized that in order to resume a meaningful life I had to connect with something that was distinctly ME, something more than the fragments of "our life" that was no more. I instantly thought of Horse. It was during my turbulent childhood that I had fallen in love with horses; they soothed me then and they did again as a lost and grieving middle-aged woman.

"My first horse, Pharrah, found me a few months later. Pharrah led me to the Tao of Equus and then into the new and wonderfully fulfilling life we share at the ranch. Medicine Horse Ranch is truly an authentic community of people and animals seeking joyful connections with each other and nature. If you feel compelled to join us for a workshop or retreat, it will change your life."

What our clients have to say ...

January 21, 2012

Firstly, I want to thank you for standing beside me for the past few years encouraging me to grow.  Recognising how many times you had to prop me up, give me a kick and other times nurture and encourage me through the same topics over and over again gives me the insight and inspiration to offer that to others.

Next I have to tell you that I felt ‘pushed out’ like a young animal when you told me that you would like to walk beside me rather than mentor me.  That brought up lots of ‘stuff’ for me to process over Christmas.  I now recognise it as the absolute right time for me to take responsibility for my own life and so another huge thank you for the perfect timing!

Finally I’ve just begun to recognise what ‘flow’ really feels like.  I dropped fully into it two weeks ago and have come out and gone back in during the past couple of weeks.

I’ve shared lots of ‘c….’ with you during the past few years and so I wanted to share some of the joy with you too!!  One week of ‘flow’ filled my first workshop in February, with 4 participants, at my new venue.  It created a 2 day Intro workshop in Ireland in February that’s full too, with a waiting list!!  And I received calls from 2 ladies who are interested in getting together to talk about working together in some way.

Another thank you for helping me find my path …………….

Dear Carol,

Just a year ago I was preparing to head out to your ranch for The Way of the Medicine Horse.
As I pause to count my blessings and give thanks, there is a long list of gifts that have come
from that auspicious beginning with you, Sarah, ML and your great horses.

I am deeply grateful for your mentorship as I have navigated my way through various choices
and options this past year. You strike a wonderful balance between listening and sharing your
experience and wisdom, and encouraging me to listen to my own heart and trust my intuitive
impulses. This word "impulse" has been maligned in our culture--as I write it so close to the
word "heart", I see for the first time the word "pulse" in "impulse". That sounds like one of the
"Guiding Principles" that Linda is soliciting for the Power of the Herd online program, doesn't it?
"Listen to your heart: trust the 'pulse' in 'impulse'!"

Or, as you've put it: "If it's a "Hell, YES!", go for it!"

Your encouragement helped me take the leap to attending the Rasa Dance workshop, which
was life changing in many, many ways, which are still unfolding. Your counsel when I was
deliberating about the apprenticeship was also crucial, and I am delighted to be in the program.
Our first session was wonderful, and the fabulous binder of tools for learning to facilitate
Epona programs is a treasure trove. As I read through the articles and worksheets and
guides to facilitating various activities, I can see that this is a tapestry with threads woven by
many hands--and I know you have been contributing to the exploration of these approaches
to empowering each participant, apprentice and facilitator to master the established core of
ideas and activities and also bring their own gifts and skills to make this path their own.
